This practical an interactive workshop addresses the creative process of design whilst teaching the students the importance of scale, the spatial environment, line, colour and texture. This workshop can be tailored to address the specifics of your chosen venue.

Details

A chance to get behind the scenes and observe the construction of a Black Swan set and props, in one of the most prestigious scenery construction workshops in Australia. Students get a rare chance to view the set model and part completed set prior to anyone else seeing it in the theatre. The tour will be conducted by Black Swan Theatre Company’s Production Manager, who will give in depth details about the show.

Please Note: This is a manufacturing workshop where dust, paint and glues are used, so please wear your older clothing. Participants must wear enclosed shoes.

Details

Students, teachers and lecturers spend time with the Designer and the Productions Manager from Black Swan Theatre Company learning about the technical side of theatre.

Students will be introduced to:
  • Stage terminology
  • Venue styles and formats
  • Roles of the production team
  • The production process from design concept to completion
  • Exploration of the theatre venue

Please be advised numbers are limited to 20 participants. In the interests of safety, all participants must wear covered shoes.

Cost

When teachers book the half day workshop and a matinee performance on the same day the cost is $40.00 per student.
The half day workshop without a matinee booking is $30.00 per student

The date of the workshop is determined by the school booking the workshop and is typically held on the school's premises.

Production & Design Elements

Teacher to select from: stage management, production management, sound, lighting, costume, set and props design.

Details

A practical and interactive 2 hour workshop devised to assist students with undertaking the process involved in production design elements when working on a production. Our visiting artists will concentrate on the design element specified by the teacher and will place the element in the context of a full production and discuss the role of the designer and part of a team. Together, students and the designer will identify key aspects of the design element and the responsibilities of the designer.

Cost

The cost for the 2 hour workshop with one designer is $220.00 (maximum 25 students). Alternatively for $500.00 schools may book a full day workshop with a team of designers.
